on this rock
PromiseLand, we are here to bring people into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and each other! For 20 years, we have seen over 13,000 people walk through our doors. That is incredible! We have witnessed countless lives changed as they grew closer to God and built life-long connections with other people.
In the last 18 months, we have experienced a surge in new people on Sundays and in small groups. This year we broke our baptism record by baptizing 143 people in the San Marcos River (in one day!)! As of December 2022, San Marcos had built 3690 new homes, and they have over 7000 homes on track to be built. That’s a lot of people that need to hear about Jesus! After seeing 5 services filled on Easter weekend this year, we realized that:
it is time to build again.
PromiseLand is stronger than we have ever been. Our leadership is strong. Our finances are strong. Our discipleship track is extremely healthy. We are in position to reach the lost and make a huge impact on the Kingdom of God. However, when you take those positives AND look at the fact that our parking lot is full, our kids’ area is full, and our worship center is maxed at three services, all signs point towards expansion.
Our pastors, elders, and leadership team have been praying and fasting about what direction we should move. We have been meeting with architects, builders, and business leaders in our church to determine what would make the most practical sense. After these discussions, we have come up with a couple of different phases to make the maximum impact to our ability to gather and accommodate new people.
phase one - purchasing property
In order to create better parking and traffic flow, we need more property to the west of our facilities. This will allow us to create another entrance/exit and many more spots for cars.
phase two - Event center
An Event Center up on our hill will overlook San Marcos. In this space, families will celebrate weddings. Kids will party and learn about Jesus. After funerals, hurting hearts will be comforted with warm meals and long hugs. This will be an “each other” place where we grow valuable, life-long relationships. The event center will be able to handle large crowds of over 200 people in banquet style seating. There will also be ample outdoor space for small groups to gather around fire pits to watch the sun set. This facility will be able to be rented by outsiders, providing a revenue stream for the church. TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR HERE!
phase three - Worship center expansion
We are developing plans to double the size of our worship center. One thousand people will be able to meet in our worship center, with theater seating so that there won’t be a bad seat in the house. We will expand our student center to give our next generation the space needed to grow in THEIR relationship with Jesus and each other.
WHY?
All of these plans and ideas that we have are more than buildings and pavement. They are about people like you and me who haven’t been exposed to the saving power of Jesus Christ. We have a vision of people far from God finding salvation and life change through the wonderful work of Jesus! People in San Marcos are waking up today apathetic, depressed, lonely, addicted, suicidal, OR they are simply caught up in a web of selfishness. They all need what we have. Many of us have taken it for granted. A relationship with Jesus Christ makes all the difference.
We are asking you to pray for us as we enter this season of building. Pray for the right decisions to be made. Pray for (what the Bible calls) favor with God and with man. Pray about how you and your family can join with us in commitment. We really are going to need everyone on board in order for progress to be made.
On This Rock, Jesus is building HIS church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it! We are standing on a firm foundation, and I’m excited about building His church and making His disciples!
What is the latest?
As of June 2024, 328 families have committed to giving $3,091,116 over the next 3 three years for our On This Rock Campaign! This is enormous! $1,030,110 has already been donated.
Hays County has signed the plat for the property next door. The final survey is being scheduled. Closing should happen promptly after that.
We have hired Classen and Winters (General Contractor) to price out the projects and help us decide what changes need to be made.
The latest bid for the Event Center is $4.8M. This is significantly lower than we first saw. Pray that it locks in here as the plans are finalized. We are currently making decisions on the kitchen, septic, and utilities.
We have officially selected a building committee in our church to help the pastors and elders make decisions along the way: Rob Steele, Earl Ingram, Al Carroll, James Weyhenmeyer, and Edgar Zarate.
We hope to have plans for the Event Center to be completed by the end of May so we can apply for permits.
Soil Samples were taken by Terracon (Dec ‘23) to help our engineers design foundations and site plans. All of them look good.
Our Next Gen team is planning and brainstorming what our needs are in the Student Center for Phase 2.
We are committing $200k to our orphanage BEFORE we do anything here in San Marcos! We have already sent them $50,000 for the project to begin.
